Privacy Policy

Applies to the PAYSOS mobile app and usepaysos.com
PAYSOS is operated by Paysos LLC ("PAYSOS", "we", "us"). We provide a mobile wallet in FCFA and virtual cards in US dollars to customers in Cameroon.
Handling money means handling personal information, including documents that prove who you are. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why we need it, who else sees it, and what you can ask us to do with it. It is written to be read, not to be skipped.
The short version
- We collect what we need to open your account, verify your identity, move your money and keep it safe — not more.
- We never sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
- Your identity documents go to our card issuer so a card can be created in your name. They are not shared with anyone else.
- We keep records of financial transactions and identity checks for as long as the law requires, even after you close your account.
- You can ask to see your data, correct it, or close your account at any time.
1. Information we collect
a. Information you give us
- Account details — your name, username, mobile number, email address, and the PIN and password you choose.
- Identity verification — your first and last name, date of birth, residential address, the type and number of your identity document, photographs of the front and back of that document, and a photograph of you holding it.
- Support conversations — anything you write to us in the in‑app chat, including files you attach.
b. Information created when you use PAYSOS
- Transactions — deposits, withdrawals, transfers, fees, and your balance.
- Card activity — merchants you pay with your virtual card, amounts, dates, and payments that were declined.
- Mobile money details — the number you deposit from or withdraw to, and which operator it belongs to.
c. Information from your device
- Sign‑in records — the date, IP address, device model and operating system of each sign‑in, so we can tell you when a new device uses your account.
- Notification token — an identifier issued by Apple or Google that lets us send you a notification. It cannot be used to read anything on your phone.
- App version and language, so the app behaves correctly and speaks to you in English or French.
What we do not collect. PAYSOS does not track your location. It does not read your contacts, your messages, your call history, or your photo library — the app can only see a photo you choose yourself or take with the camera for your identity check. We do not use advertising trackers.
2. Why we use your information
- To run your account — open it, hold your balance, and show your history.
- To verify your identity, because the law does not permit us to hold money for someone we cannot identify.
- To issue and operate your virtual card through our card partner.
- To move money to and from your mobile money account.
- To keep your account secure — detect fraud, unusual activity, and sign‑ins you did not make.
- To tell you what is happening — a deposit arriving, a card payment, a verification result.
- To answer you when you contact support.
- To meet our legal obligations, including anti‑money‑laundering rules and lawful requests from authorities.
3. Your identity documents
Your identity photographs are the most sensitive thing you give us, so we say plainly what happens to them. They are stored on our servers and passed to our card issuing partner so that a card can be created in your name. They are not published, not sold, and not shared with anyone else except where the law requires it.
If we reject a verification, the photographs from that attempt are deleted from our servers and you are asked to submit new ones.
4. Who we share information with
We share only what each partner needs to do its job:
- Our card issuing partner receives your name, date of birth, address, identity document details and photographs, so a virtual card can be issued to you, and receives your card transactions so we can show them to you.
- Mobile money providers receive the phone number and amount for a deposit or withdrawal.
- Apple and Google receive a notification token and the text of a notification, so it can reach your phone.
- Our email provider receives your email address and the message we are sending you.
- Authorities and regulators, where we are legally required to respond, or where it is necessary to investigate fraud.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
5. Information leaving Cameroon
Some of the partners above operate outside Cameroon, so your information may be processed abroad. Where that happens we require the partner, by contract, to protect it to the standard described in this policy and to use it only for the purpose we gave it to them for.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your account information for as long as your account is open. After it closes, we keep records of your identity checks and financial transactions for at least five years, or longer where the law or a regulator requires it. This is a legal obligation on financial services and we cannot waive it, even at your request.
Information we are not required to keep — support conversations, notification tokens, sign‑in records — is deleted once it is no longer useful.
7. How we protect it
- Everything between the app and our servers travels over an encrypted connection.
- Your password is stored as a one‑way hash. Nobody at PAYSOS can read it.
- Your sign‑in token and your PIN are held in the secure storage your phone provides, not in ordinary app files.
- A PIN is required after every sign‑in, and again after the app has been closed for a few minutes. Face ID or a fingerprint can stand in for it, and that check happens on your phone — your face and fingerprint never reach us.
- Card numbers are shown only when you ask for them, and are never stored on your phone.
- Access to customer records inside PAYSOS is limited to staff who need it to do their work.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your information, we will tell you and the relevant authority as quickly as we reasonably can.
8. Your choices and your rights
- See your information — ask us for a copy of what we hold about you.
- Correct it — if something is wrong, tell us and we will fix it.
- Close your account — from More → Delete account in the app, or by asking support. We will withdraw any remaining balance to you first, and then delete everything we are not legally required to keep.
- Turn off notifications — in your phone settings, at any time.
- Object or complain — write to us, and if you are not satisfied, to the competent data protection authority in Cameroon.
We answer requests within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity first, so that nobody else can make a request in your name.
9. Children
PAYSOS is for adults. You must be at least 18 to hold an account, and we check your date of birth during verification. If we learn that we hold information about a child, we delete it.
10. Cookies on our website
usepaysos.com uses cookies that are necessary for the site to work, such as keeping you signed in. The PAYSOS mobile app does not use cookies or advertising identifiers.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is significant, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
12. How to reach us
The fastest route is More → Contact support in the app, which reaches our team directly.
